During Smokehouse Days,
we were more seasonally mobile than we were in the distant past. The parents of many of our Elders worked in the canneries or were out fishing when it was time to move to Húy̓at to get our fish. Thus, their grandparents, such as Máǧaǧa, Emma Starr, Louisa Humchitt and others, would have been responsible for packing up and traveling from Bella Bella to Húy̓at. When our Elders recount their experiences as youth, the boat trip to Húy̓at looms large in their memories.
